Function
It is very important to
create “living spaces” that are functional to the homeowner’s way of
life. The home should act as a working tool to assist the homeowner
in a maintenance friendly lifestyle. In theory, the home should first
be functional then aesthetically pleasing second. If successful when
planning the home, the home will not only be beautiful but will also
act as an aid for the homeowner. This allows for more free time to
enjoy the home and life in general rather that spending countless
hours maintaining the residence.
Aesthetics
Each home should take on
the characteristics of the clients’ aesthetic wishes. The home should
look like the client therefore; no two homes should ever look a like.
Through educated discussions of materials, finishes, and details the
homeowner puts their own stamp on the exterior and interior of the
home; thus, the home takes on the homeowners personality and again is
maintenance friendly.
Communication
Communication is one of
the most important aspects of design. There needs to be open
discussion between client and designer at all times. This allows the
designer to create “living spaces” that are functional to the
homeowner’s way of life and to bring the homeowners aesthetic wishes
to the exterior and interior of the home.
